Bitshares is a decentralized crypto exchange, which enables a user to trade both cryptocurrencies and traditional instruments. It was launched in 2014 under the name Protoshares (PTS) but rebranded to Bitshares. It is achieved by converting them to Bitassets, i.e., Bitshares (BTS) tokens pegged to real-world markets. Bitshares (BTS) tokens are the native utility token which powers the platform and creates smart coins. The platform is managed by a decentralized autonomous company (DAC), which decides on the features to be added and it's future. Bitshares runs on an open-source blockchain called Graphene, which is super-fastly capable of handling 100,000 transactions per second (TPS). It was the first blockchain to use self-governed delegated proof-of-stake (DPoS), which has enhanced its security.
